Age Friendly Service in Tambon Health Promoting Hospital of Khuntalae, Suratthani Province

Abstract

          The purpose of this descriptive study was to investigate the age- friendly service for older persons and their satisfaction. The sample consisted of 310 hospitalized older persons. The sample was divided into 3 categories people who are well, home-bound, and bed-bound. Data were collected using interviews which were developed from the Age-friendly Nursing Service System: KKU Model, which contains 3 principles and 7 elements. The 3 Principles included service provider, health service system and environment. The 7 elements included 1) Nursing care and hospital environment, 2) Nurse’s attitudes and communication, 3) Organizational management in response to the needs of older persons, 4) Respect and advocacy for the rights of older persons, 5) Supporting of older persons autonomy, 6) Resources of older persons and their families during hospitalization; and 7) Promotion of family care for older persons. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics (percentage, mean and standard deviation). The results of the study were as follows:


  1. The most service provided was identified as supportive resources for the elderly and their families, followed by supporting the care for the elderly at home, and privilege of the elderly.

  2. The average level of overall satisfaction with the age friendly services in the hospital was moderate. The average scores on satisfaction with the categories of the respect and right protection and supporting privilege were at a high level.

          The findings of the study suggest that the health promoting hospital provide an age friendly services covering the components of personnel, service system, and environment.
