Effect of Self Care Program Drowning Preventive toward Knowledge and Practice for Drowning Preventive Behavior of Primary School Student, Amphor Kiensa, Surat Thani

Abstract

This quasi-experimental study used a one group pretest-posttest design, which aimed to compare the knowledge and drowning prevention behaviors among school-aged children before and after receiving the drowning self-care promotion program and to study the level of satisfaction of school-aged children received the drowning self-care promotion program. The sample included 357 school age children in Khian Sa District, Surat Thani Province. The instruments consisted of the drowning self-care promotion program were test for content validities by three experts. Data were collected by a self-assessment questionnaire about knowledge and behavior for drowning prevention. The reliability of the test for knowledge about drowning prevention was .78, and the Cronbach's coefficient of alpha of the behavioral self-assessment for drowning prevention was .89. Descriptive statistic and paired sample t-test were used in data analysis. The result revealed ​​that knowledge scores and drowning prevention behaviors scores of school-aged children after receiving the drowning self-care promotion program was significantly than before receiving the program at the .01 level. The children received the drowning self-care promotion program was of satisfaction at high level (Mean = 4.62; SD=.63). When considered by item, it was found that the instructor gave an example before practiced was highest (Mean = 4.70; SD=.46)  This finding suggest that the drowning self-care promotion program could apply to promote self-care and prevent drowning behaviors of school-aged to reduce mortality rate.
