Abstract

The quasi experimental study with one group pre-test and post-test design aimed to study the situation and to examine the effectiveness of the educational capacity development program for village health volunteers (VHVs) on knowledge and skills in caring for patients with acute coronary syndrome. The sample consisted of 44 village health volunteers selected by purposive sampling. The VHVs were selected to participate in the training program for three days. The activities of program consisted of 1) knowledge of acute coronary syndrome 2) skill training in basic life support and automated electric defibrillation usage. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage and paired t-test. The results off the for acute coronary syndrome situation study revealed that the VHVs had knowledge and basic life support skills at the moderate level. The educational capacity development program of acute coronary syndrome consisted of (1) education of acute (2) training in basic life support and the use of automated electric defibrillation. The effectiveness of coronary syndrome, capacity development program acute coronary syndrome found that mean score of knowledge and mean score of basic life support skills and automated electric defibrillation usage of VHVs were higher after the educational capacity development program than before the program (p<.001). Thus, the educational capacity development program of acute coronary syndrome was a good tool to enable the VHVs to effectively care for patients with acute ischemic heart disease, thereby improving patient safy and quality of life.
