Prevalence and Incidence of Psoriasis in Udonthani Hospital

This retrospective descriptive study aimed to determine the prevalence and incidence of psoriasis at Udonthani hospital. The study performed in the out-patient department in Udonthani hospital since 1st October 2013 to 30th September 2016. The data were collected from Hospital Operation Management Control program (HOMC) which selected just the Thai patients who had been diagnosed as Psoriasis by a dermatologist and made the diagnosis with ICD (International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problem) code from ICD-10th Reversion-Thai modification and WHO (World Health Organization) standard only. The prevalence of Psoriasis in Udonthani hospital in 2013 – 2014 was 0.12% and 2015 – 2016 was 0.11%. Male: female ratio was 1.33: 1 and age group that found the most was between 51-60 years old. They had been diagnosed as Psoriasis Vulgaris about 95.07% of all Psoriatic patients. The incidence of Psoriasis was decreased from 7.36% in 2013 to 4.68% in 2016. The percentage of psoriatic patients with co-morbidity diseases such as essential hypertension, diabetes mellitus and dyslipidemia was 21.75%, 5.25% and 3.41% respectively. So an education for patients about the disease, complications and how to take care of themselves were important and fully empowerment should be done.
