Situation Analysis and Safety Barriers: Stakeholder Perspectives in the Operational Network of Medical Laboratories in Satun Province

Abstract
The complexity of laboratory work contributes to a high level of safety hazards. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the situation and obstacles related to medical laboratory safety in Satun Province. This was a descriptive research using secondary data from the safety assessment results based on the 50-item standard assessment form of the Medical Technology Council, covering 6 issues, from the network of all hospital laboratories in Satun Province (7 laboratories). Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis. The results showed that the safety situation in fiscal year 2024, assessed in all laboratories, had an average score of good (85.92%) across all issues. The issue with the highest score was safe practices (98.05%), while the issue with the lowest score was risk management (75.00%). Five items requiring urgent improvement and related obstacles included personnel, work systems and processes, resources and technology. policy and management, environment and structure, and external factors. Conclusion and recommendations: This research reflects the current state of safety and the major obstacles that need to be improved. Collaboration at the network level and policy support will be key mechanisms for enhancing the safety of the healthcare system.
