A study of knowledge, attitudes and behaviors on the use of oral antibiotics of service recipients at Bang Ban Hospital Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to study knowledge, attitudes and behaviors on the use of oral antibiotics. of outpatient service recipients Bangban Hospital Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. It is a descriptive research study. To study the sample group who are service recipients in the Outpatient Department of Bang Ban Hospital. Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, 112 people. Data were collected using questionnaires to measure knowledge, attitudes and behaviors on the use of oral antibiotics. Data were analyzed by frequency, percentage and statistical analysis by Chi-square test. Significance was set at P < 0.05. Data was collected from 1 April 2022 – 31 December 2022.

The study found that The sample of 112 people, most of them were female 65.2%, age 51 - 60 years old 37.8%, marital status 59.8%, self-employed 43.8%, completed primary school 49.1%, had an average income of 5,001 - 10,000 baht 43.8%, Most of the subjects had a moderate level of knowledge 49.1% (  =5.84, S.D.=2.07), had a moderate level of attitude about antibiotic use, 56.3% ( =3.55, S.D.= 0.46), had a moderate level of behavior in antibiotic use, 65.2% ( =2.31, S.D.= 0.26). Knowledge about antibiotics was significantly correlated with antibiotic use behavior. statistically (p-value = 0.046) and attitudes about antibiotics were significantly correlated with antibiotic use behavior (p-value = 0.017). Therefore, if people have good knowledge and attitudes in the use of antibiotics, it will lead to proper practice in the use of antibiotics. Therefore, we should develop a plan to educate patients every time antibiotics are prescribed, to achieve rational and sustainable drug use.
