Effects of giving planned information program on the stress and satisfaction of caregiver in critical ill children

The purpose of this quasi-experimental study was to determine the effects of giving planned information program on the stress and satisfaction of caregiver in critical ill children.
Purposive sampling was used to select subjects (N=40) to the experimental (n=20) and control group (n=20). The experimental group received planned information program and routine information. The control group received routine information. The research instruments were 1) planned information program and How to do when your child admitted in PICU manual 2) demographic data questionnaire 3) the stress of caregiver in critical ill children questionnaire and 4) the satisfaction of caregiver in critical ill children questionnaire. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, independent t-test and paired t-test. The results revealed that the mean score of stress of caregiver in critical ill children in experimental group after experiment were significantly lowered than those of control group (t=8.66 p<.001). The mean score of satisfaction of caregiver in critical ill children in experimental group after experiment were significantly higher than those of control group (t=7.72 p<.001).
This findings indicate that providing giving planned information program can reduce stress and increase satisfaction of caregiver in critical ill children. Thus, nurses in pediatric intensive care should be applies as a routine nursing practice.
