Aims and Scope
The Outbreak, Surveillance, Investigation & Response (OSIR) Journal (online ISSN 2651-1061), formerly known as Outbreak, Surveillance & Investigation Reports, is a double-blind peer-reviewed, open-access publication dedicated to disseminating research in epidemiology, public health, and health sciences. The journal publishes original works in English that have not been previously published or submitted elsewhere. Committed to accessibility, the journal follows a no-fee policy, ensuring that authors are not charged for publication.
The OSIR Journal offers a free platform for epidemiological, public health and health sciences study. Our content focuses on various aspects of epidemiology, public health, and health sciences, including, but not limited to:
- Outbreak investigation
- Health data analysis
- Public health research
- Development, evaluation, and implementation of health surveillance system
- Public health response, policy and health system
Types of Published Articles
The OSIR Journal publishes five types of articles, including editorials, original articles, review articles, systematic reviews and policy and practice reviews.
Editorials:
Editorials are authored exclusively by the editor(s) of the OSIR journal or a distinguished researcher to present the significance of a research topic while placing it within a broader scientific framework. They may also highlight relevant and interesting issues in the field of epidemiology, public health, and health sciences. The length of an Editorial should not exceed 1,500 words.
Original articles:
Original articles present original findings based on investigations or study conducted by the authors. These articles address a specific research question or hypothesis and follow a structured approach that includes data collection, analysis, and interpretation. An original article should include key sections: introduction, methods, results, discussion, limitations, recommendations, and conclusion. To maintain conciseness and readability, the manuscript should not exceed 3,000 words.
Review articles:
A review article provides a comprehensive insight on a particular subject, synthesizing findings from various sources such as studies, guideline or policies to present a clear and cohesive overview. These articles evaluate current knowledge or implications and may highlight emerging trends and propose future directions. The manuscript length should not exceed 4,000 words.
Systematic reviews:
Systematic reviews provide a structured and comprehensive synthesis of existing study on a specific topic by following clearly defined methods to identify, evaluate, and summarize relevant studies. These articles aim to minimize bias through a transparent and reproducible approach, often adhering to established reporting guidelines such as PRISMA, Cochrane, or Campbell. Systematic reviews include meta-analyses, meta-syntheses, mapping reviews, scoping reviews, and systematic reviews with a meta-analysis. Authors should provide a PRISMA flow diagram (if applicable). The manuscript should not exceed 4,000 words.
Policy and practice reviews:
Policy and practice reviews provide a comprehensive examination of policies, regulations, guidelines, implementation and practices relevant to public health, healthcare systems, and disease prevention strategies. This article type serves as a valuable resource for policymakers, practitioners, and researchers by offering evidence-based insights into the implementation, challenges, and outcomes of health-related policies and interventions. Policy and practice reviews have a maximum word count of 4,000.
Publication Frequency
The OSIR journal publishes four issues per year, with each issue containing five to eight articles, totaling approximately 25 articles annually.

Language
All manuscripts submitted to the OSIR journal must be written in clear and readable English. Authors are encouraged to use concise and grammatically correct language to ensure clarity and effective communication of their works.
Publication Charges
There are no article processing or publication fees.

The OSIR journal follows an open-access policy, providing unrestricted access to published articles. This promotes knowledge exchange, collaboration, and innovation while enhancing research visibility and inclusivity.

History of Journal
The Outbreak, Surveillance & Investigation Reports (OSIR) Journal (online ISSN 2286-8933) was established in 2008 as an annual publication, initially featuring three articles per issue, a format that continued in 2009. Between 2010 and 2012, the journal increased its frequency to two issues per year. Between 2013 and 2017, the journal adopted a quarterly publication schedule, releasing issues in March, June, September, and December, each containing three articles. In 2018, to emphasize on the prompt response to the public health threats, the journal was renamed the “Outbreak, Surveillance, Investigation & Response (OSIR) journal” (online ISSN 2651-1061) and expanded the number of articles to four per issue. In 2023, the journal increased the number of articles to between five and eight per issue, with 25 articles per volume.
The OSIR journal is included in Thai-Journal Citation Index (TCI) and has been certified as a Tier 1 academic journal since 2013.
