Factors Associated with Safety Behaviors in the Prevention of Fire in Ban Bok Household, Muang Sam Sip District, Ubon Ratchathani Province

Abstract

The objective of this research was to study factors associated with fire prevention safety behavior. The samples were selected using cluster sampling technique from 25 districts in Ubon Ratchathani province yielding Muang Sam Sip district and using simple random sampling technique from residents in Muang Sam Sip district yielding 50 samples. Instrument used in this study was a questionnaire created by the researchers and was consisted of 4 sections: personal information, motivations in household fire prevention, social supports in household fire prevention, and household fire prevention behaviors. The instrument was tested for content validity and reliability with Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of the whole instrument of 0.74. Data analysis was conducted using frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviations for descriptive statistics and using Chi-square and correlation tests to test the relationships between variables at significance level of 0.05.

The results showed that education levels, age of the house and whether or not the households owned electronic appliances were significantly associated with fire prevention behaviors with Chi-square relationship values of 6.958, 1.149 and 6.045, respectively. Perceived motivations of household fire prevention had a significant positive correlation with household fire prevention behaviors (r=0.437). Social supports in household fire prevention had a significant negative correlation with household fire prevention behaviors (r= -0.340) and had a significant positive correlation with perceived motivations of household fire prevention (r=0.280).
