Prevalence and associated factors of Stress and Depression among SARS-Cov-2 patient in field hospital, Saraburi hospital

Abstract

The coronavirus disease 2019 is a worldwide pandemic causing physical and mental health problems. In August 2021, the Delta variant had spread, the number of infections and deaths was increased. The prevalence of stress and depression in COVID-19 patients has not been studied at this time. This study objected to study the prevalence and factors of stress and depression occurred in COVID-19 patients in the field hospital Saraburi Hospital Network. This is a retrospective cross-sectional study. Patients with COVID-19 was treated at field hospital, Saraburi hospital. Between 1 August – 31 October 2021, Stress Test Questionnaire (ST-5) and 9-Question Depression (9Q) test were assessed. Data were retrieved from medical records database. The prevalence of stress and depression was measured. Factors associated with stress and depression were analyzed by univariable and multivariable logistic regression.

          The results presented that among 263 COVID-19 patients, 165 female (62.75%) and mean age 41.94 ± 15.30 years, the prevalence of stress and depression is 6.46% and 11.79%, respectively. There was no factor associated with stress among COVID-19 patients. The factor associated with depression in coronavirus patients was prescribed dexamethasone (OR 8.02, 95% CI 1.41-45.64, p value 0.019)

          The prevalence of stress and depression was higher than the estimates of normal time. There was no significant factor associated with stress. The factor associated with depression was dexamethasone prescribed.
