Abstract

This quasi-experimental research was aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of school-based, teenage pregnancy prevention program. The subjects were seventh-grade students from 2 schools.  They were divided into two groups: Both study and control groups had 51 volunteers. The study group received a school-based prevention program for five sessions, whereas the control group received normal school learning activities. The self-administered questionnaires were employed at the pre-post-tests and the follow up stages.  The data were analyzed using percentage, mean, Repeated Measured ANOVA, Independent t-test and Paired t-test. The result revealed that the study group had higher mean post scores in sexual knowledge, attitude toward sexual behavior compared to pre-scores and the control group. However, the mean score differences regarding, parent-adolescent sexual communication skills, decision making and refusal skills, managing sexual desire skills, and sexual risk behavior between two groups, were not statistically significant (p> 0.05). Conclusively, the school-based teenage pregnancy prevention program enhanced sexual knowledge and attitude toward appropriate sexual behavior of teenagers. Thus, school and government sectors should consider integrating this program into some extracurricular activities to prevent teenage pregnancy among school students.
