Predictors of Self Management in Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease Undergoing Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis

Abstract
This research aimed to examine predictors of self - management based on factors including self – management knowledge, family support and depression among patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis. Seventy - four participants were attending outpatient department, CAPD clinic at Pra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya hospital. The instruments consisted of 1) personal data record form, 2) the self – management knowledge scale, 3) the social support scale, 4) patient health questionnaire-9 and 5) the self – management scale. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Peason’s product moment correlation coefficient and multiple regression. The results showed that patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis having score for self – management knowledge and family support were at a high level. There was 47.3 percent of depression. And the score for overall self – management at a good level. Self – management knowledge, family support and depression were significantly correlated to self – management. And together could explain 54.3 percent variability in Self – management. The most influence factor to self – management was family support and depression was the second predictor of self – management. The last predictor of self – management was Self – management knowledge . Therefore, health care provider should be encouraged the patient to receive family support appropriately and continuously. However they should be implemented nursing activities to prevent depression.
