Innovation of Adhesive Sharp Count Device in Operating Room

Abstract

The adhesive sharp device is designed to count the sharp items such as needles, blade scalpel or any items with a sharp edge. The device will allow convenient sharps visualization and counting, reduce time spent on counting and separating sharp items and prevent accidental injury to scrub nurse during a short time of all items counts. In addition, to prevent the risk of sharp injury in the person who served the storage and cleansing instruments, the new device for sharps count has been invented. The device was invented from the unused paper box and a non-hardening double sided adhesive tape. Sterilization was done before using the device in the operation. The results showed that the satisfaction of scrub nurses with capability, easy to use, save time for count, safe to use and safe of the invented sharp count device range from good to very good. The overall satisfaction score of the device was very good. The innovation of sharp count by using non-hardening double sided adhesive tape was found to be inexpensive and could be easily invented. It could be applied for sharp count to reduce the time spent on counting as well as to prevent accidental injury.
