DEVELOPING AN EXERCISE PROGRAM FOR FALL PREVENTION AMONG THE ELDERLY IN PHRA PHUTTHABAT DISTRICT

Abstract
The objectives of this study were; To compare the results of physical fitness tests before and after using an exercise program and the prevention of falls for the elderly. The sample group consisted of male elderly people. Aged 60 years and over, living in Phra-Phutthabat District, Saraburi Province. By selecting a purposive sample of 50 people. The experiment research was one group pretest-posttest design for 12 weeks. The process of organizing training on fall prevention through physical activities has 4 steps: the planning stage, practice steps, observation stage, and reflection, etc. The instruments used to organize activities and collect data were exercise programs for fall prevention for the elderly, a Physical fitness test for the elderly, and a Timed Up-and-Go test (TUG). Descriptive data analysis was performed to find frequencies, percentages mean, standard deviations, and paired sample t-test statistics were used at the 0.05
Results were found:
- The results of comparing physical fitness tests for the elderly before and after exercising within 12 weeks were as follows; Back scratch, 30-second chair stand, Agility course, and 2-minute step showed significant differences at the 0.05 level.
- The results of comparing the Timed Up-and-Go test (TUG) before and after exercise within 12 weeks showed significant differences at the 0.05 level.
