FACTORS AFFECTING EXERCISE BEHAVIOR OF STUDENTS AT THE FACULTY OF EDUCATION IN CHULALONGKORN UNIVERSITY

Abstract

Exercise is an important factor in preventing and promoting the health of all groups of people, especially university students who will be an important force in developing the country. This research aimed to 1) study the level of knowledge, attitude, and exercise behaviors; 2) compare the knowledge, attitude, and exercise behaviors of female and male students; and 3) study the factors affecting the exercise behaviors of students. The research method used quantitative research. Data were collected from 160 of the Faculty of Education, Chulalongkorn University students, who were selected by multi-stage sampling. A questionnaire was used to assess knowledge, attitude, and exercise behaviors. The indexes of congruence were 0.94, 1.00, and 1.00, and the reliability was 0.72, 0.89, and 0.73, respectively. The data were analyzed using the mean, standard deviation, t-test, and multiple regression. The research results found that 1) students had a moderate level of exercise knowledge, high level of exercise attitude, and high level of exercise behavior, 2) the mean scores of knowledge, attitude and exercise behavior between female and male students were not different, and 3) attitude can predict the exercise behavior of Faculty of Education,  Chulalongkorn University students by 33.6 percent. The research results can be used to promote attitudes towards exercise for students so that students will have exercise behaviors that are correct and beneficial to their health.
