QUALITATIVE RESEARCH: LEARNING OF SWIMMING SKILLS AND TEACHING COURSE OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION STUDENTS

Abstract
This research aimed to 1) study the experiences of students in learning swimming skills and teaching course, and 2) examine the factors affecting the learning of swimming skills and teaching course among students. The sample consisted of 44 students (35 males and 9 females) from the Faculty of Education, Thailand National Sports University, Samut Sakhon Campus, who were enrolled in the swimming skills and teaching course in the first semester of the 2024 academic year. These students attended the course once a week for about 3 hours each day over 15 weeks. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and written event descriptions. Data were analyzed inductively using constant comparison methods, and the reliability of the data was verified through triangulation.
The results revealed: 1) The experiences gained from learning swimming skills and teaching were: (1) physical skills, (2) knowledge and teaching techniques, (3) safety and first aid, (4) communication and relationship building, and (5) motivation and career development; and 2) The factors affecting students' learning of swimming skills and teaching were identified as three main areas: (1) internal factors (basic knowledge and skills, motivation and interest, physical condition and fitness, and confidence and attitudes), (2) external factors (teaching quality and teacher support, learning support materials, learning environment, support from peers and instructors, and evaluation and follow-up), and (3) personal factors (time management and goal setting).
