This descriptive research aimed to analyze the subject matters of courses in an elderly school and compare them to the curriculum structure for the Elderly School of the Department of Older Persons (ESDOP) using Ban Khao Samo Khlaeng Elderly School, Phitsanulok as a comparative case study. The ESDOP consisted of 3 core courses, including Life, Vocational training and Academic. The subject’s analytical table was adopted to collect the data from class schedule, lecture documents of the topics and areas. The obtained data was analyzed by using content analysis and frequency shown as number and percentage. The results revealed that the total hours taught in each class is greater than the amount specified in the ESDOP. In the life course, the teaching hours were more than the number of hours defined by 72%, 70% and 77% of the total hours in 1st, 2nd and 3rd classes, respectively. In comparative curriculum structure with ESDOP, the academic course was found to take less than the number of hours defined. The content of the subjects in each core course, like environmental management and housing for the elderly, and life and health topics in the life course did not show any balanced proportion of the structural aspects in some classes. Household accounting in the vocational training course and 3 topics of the academic course, including elder law and social security benefit, using a computer to communicate, and savings plan did not show in all class schedules. To promote active aging, a related organization can use these results as a guide to improve or develop the course subjects according to the curriculum structure of ESDOP and the learning needs of the elderly.
