Effectiveness of Herbal Poultice for Knee Pain Relief in Patients with Osteoarthritis of Knee in Banpoom Tambon Health Promoting hospital Don Tum District, Nakhon Pathom Province

The aims of this research was to compare effectiveness of herbal poultice on the pain level of the knee. The research design was a quasi-experimental with pretest-posttest design by poultice for knee method. The samples used in the research were 30 osteoarthritis patients. Used tools comprised severity assessment form for knee osteoarthritis (Oxford Knee Score) and measurement of pain (VRS) were collected and data analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and t-test. The results revealed the number of elderly with knee pain from knee osteoarthritis totaled 30 patients were females more than males occurs in 60% in 18 females and 40% in 12 males patients, average age 59.63 years (SD = 6.408). Most of 40% of persons were 55-59 years old had knee osteoarthritis, 20% were followed by the age of 50-54 years old and 60-64 years old. After participated of poultice of the knee. The experimental group had an average score of Oxford knee score equal to 30.23 (SD = 2.873) which was higher than before participated of poultice of the knee with an average score of the Oxford knee score of 25.07 (SD = 2.852). Statistical significance (p-value) at 0.01. After participated of poultice of the knee. The experimental group had an average score of level of pain equal to 2.63 (SD = 0.964) which was lower than before participated of poultice of the knee with an average score of level of pain to 4.90 (SD = 0.803). Statistical significance (p-value) at 0.01. The results concluded that use of herbal poultice on the knee can be used as an alternative treatment instead of oral medicine.
