Plaque Reduction in a Personalized Oral Health Education Program combined with Gingivitis Treatment among Patients of the Student Dental Clinic, Sirindhorn College of Public Health, Ubon Ratchathani

This research aimed to study the effectiveness of a personalized oral health education program combined with gingivitis treatment on dental plaque among patients attending the student dental clinic at Sirindhorn College of Public Health, Ubon Ratchathani. The research was conducted using quasi-experimental research: two-group pre-post test study design. The sample consisted of 36 patients in the experimental group who received personalized oral health education along with gingivitis treatment and 36 first-year dental public health students in the control group who received oral health education without gingivitis treatment. We measured dental plaque before and after the intervention using an erythrosine disclosing solution. We analyzed the data using a paired samples t-test to assess within-group differences and an independent t-test, ANCOVA to compare differences between the groups. The results showed that both types of oral health education programs significantly reduced dental plaque (p–value < 0.001). However, the experimental group had a significantly greater reduction than the control group (p–value < 0.001). These findings indicated that a personalized oral health education program combined with gingivitis treatment is more effective in reducing dental plaque than group education alone.
