Abstract

Introduction: Effective time management in the operating room is essential, as it helps reduce hospital costs, enhances patient safety and satisfaction, and improves the performance of both anesthesia and surgical teams. This study aims to examine the service process time for patients undergoing surgery during office hours at Chomthong Hospital. Specifically, it seeks to analyze the efficiency of the operating room using various indicators and to identify the factors that influence the duration of these service processes. Methods: A prospective descriptive study was recorded the service process time and factors that influence the duration during office hours since, 1 April 2024 to 30 June 2024. Results: The median case time was 40 min (range: 5 to 420 min). The optimization index (OPI), resistance index (RI), operating room utilization (OUT), and overload index (OVI) were 165.9%, 40.1%, 58.7 ± 27.1, and -96.9%, respectively. The case time was statistically significantly associated with anesthesia-controlled time, surgeon-controlled time, and between-case time. Conclusion: The operating room at Chom Thong Hospital is underutilized relative to its capacity. Effective management of the operating room requires multidisciplinary collaboration to address issues across various processes. Solutions should prioritize patient safety and staff capabilities, while also focusing on improving systems through the use of a database.
