Enhancing Self-care of Elderly by Using Herbs at Ban Tha Kam, Mae Hia, Muang, Chiang Mai Province

Abstract

The purpose of this developmental research is to study the enhancing of self-care by using herbs and to compare knowledge and behavior before and after development of self-care in elderly at Tha Kam Village, Tumbol Mae Hia, Muang District, Chiang Mai Province. 40 people were selected by inclusion criteria. Instruments for usage 1) data collecting instruments consisted of (1) personal interviews (2) interview form of knowledge in self care index (3) self care behavior index by using herbs and (4) Questionnaire of group discussion. Found that content validity index was .98 and reliability was .83 Time line of collecting data was in June to November, 2560 and divided the enhancing of self-care by using herbs into 3 phases 1) before developing phase 2) developing phase and 3) after developing phase. The statistics using were percentage, average, standard deviation and pair-t test.

            The results are 1) before developing phase by using data from group discussion and content analysis 4 factors involved (1) elderly factors (2) processes (3) physiological structure in community and (4) health care service 2) developing phase gained self-care manuals and programs by using herbs consist of 6 activities such as local herbs activities, well known herbs activities, delicious herbs activities, focal group activities, easily planted activities and reported herbs activities and 3) after developing phase found that knowledge and behavior in self-care before and after developing are different at the significant level of .000
