Abstract

Adolescence with hormonal changes that affect mood and behavior change easily. It is often used in the judgment of the problem and may cause violent behavior.This study aimed to investigate violent behavior and related factors among male vocational students. The sample was composed of 295 male vocational students in Songkhla province. The instruments used were two sets of questionnaire that consisted of personal data, related factor and violent behavior questionnaire. The reliability by Cornbrach’s alpha coefficient was confirmed before study commenced. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics and Spearman rank correlation coefficient.

The results of study revealed that:

  1. A sample portion of 3.1% scored high for physical violence, 72.2% of the sample scored a medium level, and 22.7% scored a low level. A sample portion of 3.7% scored high for verbal violence, 64.4% of the sample scored a medium level, and 31.9% scored a low level;
  2. Positive attitude of violence and physical violence score had correlation statistically significant at a low level (r = 0.26, p = 0.00). Risk factor of violence and physical violence had correlation statistically significant at a medium level (r = 0.59, p = 0.00).
  3. Positive attitude of violence and verbal violence had correlation statistically significant at a low level (r = 0.27, p = 0.00). Risk factor of violence and verbal violence had correlation statistically significant at a medium level (r = 0.70, p = 0.00).

       The results from this study show that most of the sample group had a medium level of physical and verbal violent behaviors and this also correlated to the risk factor of violence at a medium level. Therefore, the intervention to reduce verbal and physical violence should be further developed to reduce the risk of violence behavior.
