Abstract

Intertrochanteric Fracture is a relatively frequent and critical problem with elderly people. The most common treatment of femur fractures is an open reduction and internal fixation for the immobilization of the bone. However, complications are prone to occur if post-surgery care is ineffective. For persons with high independence,  these complications can lead to infections and possibly fatalities, thus negatively impacting quality of life or endangering life expectancy.  Nurses must be educated on the role of post-operative care to be able to assess patients’ mental status effectively during rehabilitation, to minimize complications, and to assure a gradual return to a healthy baseline and good quality of life.
