Development of a Multimedia Electronic Book “Role of Nurse in Postpartum Family Planning”

Abstract

Multimedia electronic books are a new form and interest digital media which are rapidly becoming an alternative form of self learning in the 21 century. The objectives of this developmental research are: 1) to develop an effective multimedia electronic book on Role of Nurse in Postpartum Family Planning; 2) to study learning achievement after used multimedia electronic book; and 3) to investigate the satisfaction of students towards the use of the proposed multimedia electronic book. Thirty fourth year nursing students were specifically selected as the samples to be used in this research. The research tools deployed in this work were; 1) multimedia electronic book on Role of Nurse in Postpartum Family Planning; 2) evaluation of learning achievement forms; and 3) questionnaire of sutdents satisfaction towards the multimedia electronic book. Finally, descriptive statistics and paired t-test were used to analyse the data.

The results of this study reveal that: 1) efficiency of the multimedia electronic book on Role of Nurse in Postpartum Family Planning was at 73.54/85.00. It was found that the average score of the samples was 73.54% and 85.00% of the samples managed to achieve all objectives2) the learning achievement after study was statistically significantly higher than the pretest (t 3.657, p.001)  and 3) students satisfaction level on the multimedia electronic book was placed at highly satisfiedfor both the content and design of the book with an overall mean of 4.25.

         The conclusion from this study is that the multimedia electronic book on Role of Nurse in Postpartum Family Planning is an excellent approach for self study in terms of the content, design, and presentation. It helps nursing students develop basic knowledge and increases learning efficiency. It is recommended that multimedia electronic book should be improved in order to reach effectiveness as criteria and appropriate for further develope skill of learning in 21th century.
