Working behaviors and lifestyle are the significance health determinants affecting the health status of workers. This descriptive study aimed to examine working behaviors and lifestyles among 339 corn farmers working in Chiang Mai province, chosen through purposive sampling. Data collection was conducted using the interview form which were developed from literature review. A panel of experts confirmed the content validity of the instrument, which received a content validity index of 0.99. The reliability was also tested and found to be acceptable, with working behaviors and lifestyle receiving scores of 0.80 and 0.94 respectively. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics.
The findings showed that 65.2 percent of the sample performed safe working behaviors (use of personal protective equipment, and safety work practices) at a medium level; only 16.81 percent was at a high level. In addition, nearly two thirds (63.72%) of the sample performed a safe lifestyle (food consumption, physical activity, rest and sleep, and non-drug use) are at a medium level; 17.99 percent was found at a high level
The results of this study indicated that healthcare provider team should recognize the significance of health risk surveillance among corn farmers. Such surveillance should be implemented systematically and continuously. Also, healthcare provider team should operate with environmental surveillance and disseminate health information to corn farmers. Furthermore, health risk communication contributing to modified working behavior and lifestyle needs to be managed in order to reduce occupational risk. This will result in a higher level of safety and quality of life among these corn farmers.
