Abstract

The epidemic of pulmonary tuberculosis in workers from Myanmar is increasing every year and is an important public health problem in Thailand. Therefore, providing education on preventing pulmonary tuberculosis infection for workers from Myanmar is very crucial. This developmental research aimed to develop multimedia materials on preventing pulmonary tuberculosis infection for workers from Myanmar, consisting of a video and spot media. The samples included 42 Myanmar workers by using purposive sampling method, working in a large garment factory located in the Mae Sot district, Tak Province. The study was conducted from August 2016 to March 2017. The research instruments included a development and design plan for the multimedia materials, a multimedia user opinion questionnaire, a demographic data questionnaire, a knowledge test of preventing pulmonary tuberculosis infection, and a multimedia satisfaction questionnaire. These instruments were validated by five content experts and three media experts, using back translation by Thai-Myanmar language experts. The reliability of the knowledge test and the multimedia satisfaction questionnaire were .80 and .98 respectively. The efficiency of the multimedia materials was tested by one to one, small group, and field test. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics.

The research findings revealed that the multimedia materials on preventing pulmonary tuberculosis infection had an efficiency of 1.20 achieving the Meguigans standard criteria of 1.00. User satisfaction of the multimedia materials was high to highest for content, design and presentation, and usability.

This research suggests that the developed multimedia material increased knowledge on pulmonary tuberculosis prevention for workers from Myanmar and should be disseminated to workers from Myanmar who work in other workplaces to increase their knowledge and thus improve their practices of pulmonary tuberculosis prevention.
