Abstract

Dependent elders who are proficient in mental health literacy can deal with their own mental health problems and enhance their psychological well-being. The objective of this descriptive correlational study was to study and explore the relationship between mental health literacy and the psychological well-being of dependent elders. The sample was 88 dependent elders residing in the area under the responsibility of Health Promoting Hospitals of Muang district, Phayao province, during June to July 2021. The data were collected using questionnaires on mental health literacy among elders and psychological well-being among elders which were tested for validity and reliability. Descriptive statistics and Pearson's product moment correlation coefficient were also used to analyze the data.
The results revealed that mental health literacy and psychological well-being were at a moderate level. Furthermore, mental health literacy positively and moderately correlated with psychological well-being at a significant level of p < .001 (r = .457).
The results of this study could be used as basic information for health care personnel to plan for psychological well-being promotion among dependent elders.
