ภาวะหย่อนสมรรถภาพทางเพศเป็นภาวะแทรกซ้อนสำคัญหลังการผ่าตัดมะเร็งต่อมลูกหมาก พยาบาลมีบทบาทสำคัญในด้านการดูแลโดยตรง ด้วยการให้ข้อมูลผู้ป่วยถึงโอกาสเกิดภาวะหย่อนสมรรถภาพทางเพศหลังผ่าตัด เปิดโอกาสให้ซักถาม ประเมินสมรรถภาพทางเพศก่อนผ่าตัดเพื่อคัดกรองโอกาสเกิด แนะนำวิธีการใช้ยาให้เหมาะสม สอนการออกกำลังกล้ามเนื้ออุ้งเชิงกราน นอกจากนี้ยังต้องปฏิบัติบทบาทให้คำปรึกษา สนับสนุนและประสานให้ได้รับการบำบัดทางเพศจากผู้เชี่ยวชาญหากผู้ป่วย/คู่สมรสต้องการโดยเคารพความเป็นบุคคลของผู้ป่วย
