การคัดแยกผู้ป่วยที่แผนกฉุกเฉินเป็นระบบในการจัดกลุ่มผู้ป่วยตามลำดับความจำเป็นเร่งด่วนที่ต้องได้รับการรักษา การคัดแยกผู้ป่วยต้องทำอย่างถูกต้องเพื่อให้ผู้ป่วยปลอดภัย และเกิดการใช้ทรัพยากรที่มีจำกัดอย่างเหมาะสม พยาบาลซึ่งทำหน้าที่ในการคัดแยกผู้ป่วยที่แผนกฉุกเฉินมีบทบาทสำคัญในการพัฒนาคุณภาพการคัดแยกผู้ป่วย วงล้อคุณภาพ (the Plan-Do-Study-Act cycle) เป็นเครื่องมือในการพัฒนาคุณภาพที่มีการใช้อย่างแพร่หลายในระบบสุขภาพ บทความนี้นำเสนอตัวอย่างของการนำวงล้อ คุณภาพไปใช้ในการพัฒนาคุณภาพการคัดแยกผู้ป่วยในโรงพยาบาล 4 แห่ง พร้อมทั้งบทเรียนจากตัวอย่างการนำวงล้อคุณภาพไปใช้
