In Thailand, the prevalence of depression in chronic schizophrenic patients is between 26-36 percent. This semi-experimental research. The objective is to compare depression among schizophrenic patients in the community before and after receiving the treatment of cognitive behavioral therapy with family participation and comparing depression of schizophrenic patients in the community between groups receiving cognitive behavioral therapy with family participation with the group receiving normal nursing care. Sample group is Schizophrenic patients who come to receive psychiatric outpatient services at Ang Thong Hospital and primary caregivers who care for schizophrenic patients in 40 families, selected into 2 groups, 20 experimental groups and 20 families with control groups by Illness period and Beck's depression score. The experimental group received the cognitive behavioral therapy with family participation that the researcher developed. The control group received regular care. Collect data using tools that have passed the quality inspection with content validity index equal to .82 and analyze the reliability by using Cronbach's alpha coefficient formula equal to equal to .95 and .93 Analyze data using t-statistics.
The results showed that depression of schizophrenic patients in the community After receiving the treatment of the cognitive behavioral therapy with family participation, lower than before receiving treatment with statistical significance at the level of .05. and depression of schizophrenic patients in the community who received cognitive and behavioral therapy with lower family participation from those receiving normal nursing care at statistical significance of .05.
