ความต้องการการดูแลแบบสนับสนุนที่ได้รับการตอบสนองเป็นปัจจัยสำคัญในการลดปัญหาการขาดสมดุลในชีวิตในผู้ป่วยมะเร็งต่อมลูกหมากที่เป็นผลจากโรคและการรักษา การศึกษาเชิงพรรณนานี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาความต้องการการดูแลแบบสนับสนุนในผู้ที่เป็นมะเร็งต่อมลูกหมากที่เข้ารับการรักษาในโรงพยาบาลมหาวิทยาลัยแห่งหนึ่ง ระหว่างเดือนมกราคม ถึงมิถุนายน 2560 กลุ่มตัวอย่างเลือกแบบเฉพาะเจาะจง จำนวน 127 คน เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัยคือ แบบสอบถามความต้องการการดูแลแบบสนับสนุนของผู้ป่วยมะเร็ง ฉบับภาษาไทย แปลโดยสุพันธ์ อุ่นใจ วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยใช้สถิติพรรณนา
ผลการศึกษาพบว่า กลุ่มตัวอย่างรายงานความต้องการการดูแลแบบสนับสนุนร้อยละ 23.6 ของจำนวนทั้งหมด โดยมีค่าเฉลี่ยคะแนนความต้องการการดูแลแบบสนับสนุนด้านจิตใจ ด้านการดูแลและช่วยเหลือผู้ป่วย ด้านระบบการดูแลและข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับสุขภาพ ด้านร่างกายและการทำกิจวัตรประจำวัน อยู่ในระดับต่ำ ( =1.49; S.D.=0.63; =1.53; S.D.=0.64; =1.59; S.D.=0.61; =1.60; S.D.=0.65 ตามลำดับ) โดยคิดเป็นร้อยละ 27.6, 40.2, 14.2, 23.6 ตามลำดับ ขณะที่มีความต้องการการดูแลด้านสัมพันธภาพทางเพศ อยู่ในระดับปานกลาง ( =1.67; S.D.=0.61) คิดเป็นร้อยละ 21.3
ผลการศึกษาครั้งนี้สามารถใช้เป็นข้อมูลพื้นฐานในการวางแผนการพยาบาลเพื่อตอบสนองให้ผู้ที่เป็นมะเร็งต่อมลูกหมากได้รับการดูแลแบบสนับสนุนตามความต้องการซึ่งจะส่งเสริมให้การดำรงชีวิตของผู้ที่เป็นมะเร็งต่อมลูกหมากกลับสู่สภาพสมดุลดังเดิม
