ภาวะเปราะบางในผู้สูงอายุ เป็นภาวะที่ร่างกายเสื่อมถอยและความสามารถในการปรับตัวลดลง ส่งผลให้เกิดความเสี่ยงต่อภาวะแทรกซ้อนทางสุขภาพ การมีโรคร่วมและภาวะเปราะบางในผู้สูงอายุสัมพันธ์กับการเปลี่ยนแปลงทางสรีรวิทยาของหัวใจ ส่งผลต่อความเสี่ยงของการเกิดภาวะหัวใจเต้นผิดจังหวะที่เพิ่มขึ้น โดยเฉพาะหัวใจห้องบนที่เต้นสั่นพลิ้ว ผู้สูงอายุที่มีภาวะเปราะบางอาจมีอาการและอาการแสดงของภาวะหัวใจห้องบนเต้นสั่นพลิ้วที่ไม่ชัดเจน ดังนั้นการประเมินภาวะเปราะบางร่วมกับการคัดกรองภาวะหัวใจห้องบนเต้นสั่นพลิ้วในผู้สูงอายุ จึงมีความสำคัญอย่างยิ่งต่อการพยาบาลที่เหมาะสม รวมถึงการพยาบาลในภาวะวิกฤต ซึ่งเน้นการพยาบาลและการป้องกันภาวะแทรกซ้อนที่รุนแรง และการดูแลแบบต่อเนื่องที่ครอบคลุมการวางแผนจำหน่าย การส่งเสริมสุขภาพ การป้องกันและลดความเสี่ยงจากภาวะแทรกซ้อนระยะยาว รวมถึงฟื้นฟูสมรรถภาพอย่างองค์รวมร่วมกับทีมสหสาขาวิชาชีพ แนวทางนี้คำนึงถึงความต้องการเฉพาะบุคคลของผู้ป่วย เพื่อส่งเสริมคุณภาพชีวิตของผู้สูงอายุและครอบครัวอย่างยั่งยืน
