Abstract

This descriptive survey study aims to study knowledge, participation, and factors related to participation in tuberculosis prevention and control of health volunteers at Bang-Lunk Health Promotion Hospital, Muang District, Chumporn Province. One hundred twenty six health volunteers were purposely selected to answer the researcher-developed questionnaire asking about their personal data, knowledge, and participation in tuberculosis prevention and control as well as problems and recommendations in the prevention and control.

The data were analyzed by using percentage, mean, standard deviation and independent t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson’s correlation. The results revealed that there were significantly different in participation in tuberculosis prevention and control among volunteers with different occupations, training experience on tuberculosis prevention and control, information exposure to tuberculosis related knowledge (p<05). Age is positively correlated with participation in tuberculosis prevention and control of health volunteers (r=0.30, p <0.05). Years of being a volunteer were positively correlated with participation for tuberculosis prevention and control of health volunteers (r=0.32; p <0.01).

Based on the study’s results, attitudes towards tuberculosis prevention and control of health volunteers should also be studied. The involved parties should establish the regulations or policies for tuberculosis prevention and control that are complied with national tuberculosis strategic plan of 2016-2020. More innovations should be produced for tuberculosis prevention and control.
