The Effect of Resilience Enhancement Program to the Resilience of Caregivers of Violent Behaviors Schizophrenia Patients

This is Quasi-experimental research to study the effect of “Resilience Enhancement Program”. The research samples of study were violent behaviors for schizophrenia patient caregivers who were the client of the emergency department of Suansaranrom Psychiatric Hospital between Aprils to June 2018. The purposive sampling technic was used for experiment group (n = 20) and control group (n = 20) of the Resilience Enhancement Program selected. The control group matching criteria were gender, age, time of patient response, and pre-test score. The Resilience Enhancement Program was developed by the Ministry of Public Health which was applied to the study. The program composes of 3 parts, “I am”, “I have”, and “I can”. The program activities implementation for 3 times meeting. The program was test for content and construction validity by 5 experts which CVI was 0.83. Then, the resilience quotient questionnaire were tested the resilience quotient outcome for 2 times, T1 immediately after program attendant and T2 for next 3 months. The Cronbach’s Alpha Coefficient reliability of this instrument was 0.81. The data analyzed by percentage, mean, standard deviation and repeated measure ANOVA.
Results: The results revealed that the resilience quotient of the experimental group at T1 and T2 were significantly higher than pre-test. (F=103.714, 155.977, p <0.05 respectively). Furthermore, the resilience quotient between group at T1 and T2 of experimental group were higher than control significantly (F=3.385, 5.204, p <0.05 respectively). The results indicated that the resilience enhancing program should be properly organized for violent behavior schizophrenia patient caregivers in order to improve efficient care and quality of life. The caregiver strengthening, coping, and learning enhancement by the program need to be emphasized for quality of life improvement.
