The Effect of the Maternal Roles Promoting Program by Family Support on Attitude and Maternal Roles among Adolescent Mothers

Abstract

A quasi - experimental study was used in this study. The objectives of this research were 1) to examine the effects of the maternal roles promoting program by family support on attitude and maternal roles among adolescent mothers. The samples were 60 teenage mothers up to 19 years old who came to antenatal care at Photharam Hospital, Ratchaburi Province from January to April 2019. Participants were randomly assigned to intervention and control group and 30 participants per group. The intervention program used the maternal roles promoting program by family support on attitude and maternal roles among adolescent mothers. The control group received services according to the standard of the hospital. Research instruments were questionnaire of attitudes of motherhood of adolescent mothers and the questionnaire for success in maintaining the role of motherhood of adolescent mothers. Cronbach’s alpha coefficients were 078, and 0.79. Data were analyzed by using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and independent t-test. The results revealed that mean scores of the attitude of motherhood of adolescent mothers and mean scores of the maternal roles of adolescent mothers in the experimental group were significantly higher than those in the control group (t=8.604, p< 0.001)
