Effects of Practical Teaching with Reflection on Clinical Skilled Nursing for Principles and Techniques in Nursing

Abstract

This quasi experimental study employed a one group pretest - posttest design to compare the average skilled nursing before and after using a practical teaching with reflection for principles and techniques in nursing. The participants were 98 second year nursing students at Boromarajonani College of Nursing Chakriraj. The research instruments comprised: 1) lesson plans of practical teaching with reflection; 2) Reflective journal writing.

The instruments consisted of clinical skills of nursing. The content validity was qualified by experts and reliability of 0.87 . The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, paired t-test.

The results revealed that, after practical teaching with reflection students had an average score of clinical skills nursing of Endotracheal tube higher before teaching the significance at .001(t = -15.16 ). An average score of clinical skills nursing of retained foley’s catheter higher before teaching the significance at .001(t = -21.67). An average score of clinical skills nursing of intravenous infusion higher before teaching the significance at . 001(t = -10.37).
