The Relationship between Learning Style, Preferences, Knowledge Retention and Nursing Skills in Labor and Delivery of Nursing Students

The purposes of this descriptive research were to study the learning style preferences of nursing students, knowledge retention and nursing skill in labor and delivery and to study the relationship between the learning style preferences, knowledge retention and nursing skills in labor and delivery. Participants were 78 third-year nursing students who were selected by using convenient sampling. Data were collected by using Grasha and Reichmann’s questionnaire, knowledge test and labor and delivery assessment tool. Descriptive statistics and spearman rank correlation were used for data analysis. The results shown that the majority of the participants had collaboration and participation learning style preferences. Their knowledge retention was declined and nursing skills in labor and delivery was at moderate level. . There was no relationship between the learning style preferences, knowledge retention and nursing skills in labor and delivery. As the results, the academic institute should use the learning and teaching style that promote learning retention and nursing skills.
