Factors Affecting Organizational Commitment of Personnel under the Auspices of Public Health Office of Tha Sae District, Chumphon Province

Abstract

This research aimed to study 1) the level of factors affecting the organizational commitment of personnel, 2) the level of organizational commitment of personnel, and 3) the relationship between the factors affecting the organizational commitment of personnel under the auspices of Public Health Office of Tha Sae District, Chumphon Province.

The population and sample included 78 personnel under the auspices of the        Tha Sae District Health Office, Chumphon Province. The instrument used to collect data was a  5-level rating scale questionnaire asking the participants about factors affecting organizational commitment and personnel commitment with the reliability coefficients of .88 and .80, respectively, and an open-ended questionnaire. Data were analyzed for frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, T-test, F-test, Pearson correlation and content analysis.

The research study revealed the following results.

1) Factors affecting organizational commitment consisted of four factors, including personal factors, work characteristics, organization characteristics, and work experience. The overall average of organizational commitment was at a high level.

2) Organizational commitment consisted of three aspects: continuance commitment, affective commitment, and normative commitment. Overall organizational commitment is at a high level.

3) Personal factors affecting organizational commitment included gender, age, and work characteristics.  In addition, organizational characteristics, work characteristics, and work experience were statistically and significantly related with overall organizational commitment and each commitment aspect (p <.01 and .05, respectively).
