The Effects of Potential Development Program for Village Health Volunteers (VHVs) in Childhood Development Promotion Makham Tia Subdistrict, Mueang District, Surat Thani Province

This one-group pretest-posttest quasi-experimental study aimed to examine effect of potential development program for Village Health Volunteers (VHVs) in childhood development promotion. The 33 samples were VHVs working in Makham Tia Subdistrict Mueang District Surat Thani Province selected by simple random sampling. Research instruments consisted of a demographic questionnaire, the questionnaires of knowledge and behavior regarding promoting child development, Developmental Surveillance and Promotion Manual (DSPM) and Potential Development Program for VHVs in Childhood Development Promotion. Content validity was validated by 3 experts. The reliability was .78 by Kuder Richardson and by Cronbach’s alpha coefficients were .82. Data were analyzed using frequency percentage, mean, Standard Deviation (SD.), and Paired t-test.
Results showed that: 1. the mean score of knowledge and behavior regarding promoting child development before experiment were 8.76 (SD.=1.39) and 32.15 (SD.=6.53), after experiment were 11.18 (SD.=1.78) and 41.21 (SD.=2.80). 2. the mean score of knowledge and behavior regarding promoting child development before and after participating potential development program for VHVs in childhood development promotion were significantly different (t=8.69, p< .01, t= 12.16, p< .01) respectively. Therefore, it could be promoted potential development program for VHVs in childhood development promotion for improve knowledge and behavior regarding promoting child development. VHVs will be an important part in driving the development of surveillance system and promoting child development to achieve the goals.
