Abstract

The purpose of this quasi-experimental research was to evaluate the effectiveness of Simulation-Based Learning for normal labor on the readiness and stress of nursing students before internship. The sample group is Third-year Bachelor of Nursing Science students, divided into a control group and an experimental group, 23 patients per group. The control group received training by a half-body delivery dummy. The experimental group received training by simulation-based learning. Data were collected using a personal information questionnaire, confidence in nursing practice questionnaire (reliability .89), nursing skills assessment form (reliability .98), stress questionnaire (reliability .85). General data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Compare differences in nursing practice skill scores, confidence in nursing practice, stress, and coping stress between before and after practice using a paired t-test and comparing between the experimental and control groups using an independent t-test.

The results of the study found that the experimental group had an average score of nursing practice skills and confidence score after receiving training by simulation-based learning was significantly higher than before the experiment and was significantly higher than the experimental group (t=8.22, p< .001 and t=4.81, p< .001, respectively). The experimental group had a significantly lower stress score than the control group (t=-10.59, p< .001).

Simulation-Based learning for normal labor can increase readiness and help reduce stress before training in the delivery room. Therefore, nurse instructors can use this teaching method to preparation and develop normal childbirth skills in nursing students. In addition, the results of the study may be used as guidelines for further research on other related issues.
