The Effect of Rational Emotion Behavior Based on Group Counseling Program to the Coping Among Caregivers of Schizophrenia Patients with Aggressive Behaviors

This two-group pre-test and post-test quasi-experimental research aims to compare the effect of pre and post participated in the Rational Emotion Behavior Based of Group Counseling Program. Participants comprised 60 caregivers of schizophrenia patients. According to control confounding variable of age, marital status and educational level. The participants were simple random assigned into experimental and control group, each group of 30 participants. The control group received routine care and the experimental group participated in the Rational Emotion Behavior Based of Group Counseling Program. Research instrument consists of (1) the coping of the caregivers of schizophrenia Patients with aggressive behaviors questionnaire, the reliability of questionnaire was analyzed using Cronbach’s Alphy coefficient, yielding a value of .84. (2) A general demographic data form and The Rational Emotion Behavior Based of Group Counseling Program. Implemented 5 activities while taking 60-90 minutes per activity. The content was verified by three experts evaluate the similarity of content by using the content validation index equal to 1. The Data was analyzed statistically by percentage, mean, standard deviation and hypothesis test using of pair t-test and independent t-test.
The result showed that the mean score of experimental groups was significantly higher than that before participating in the program (t=-45.68, p< .01). In addition, the mean score of the experimental group after participated the program was significantly higher than the control group that participated routine care (t=-25.71, p< .01).
