Abstract

This correlational research aimed to study the happiness level of the elderly and factors related to happiness of elderly in Mueang district, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. The sample consisted of 393 elderly people. The research tools used include (1) Personal information questionnaire, (2) 15-Item Happiness Index evaluation form, and (3) Factors related to the happiness of the elderly. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficients and Spearman Correlation Coefficient.

The results found that the elderly have an overall level of happiness equal to the general population. (M=45.91, SD.=6.12). And Factors related to the happiness of the elderly include family factors (r= .345, .398 and .452, p< .01), Social factors (r= .310, p< .01), Health factors (r= .371, .475, and .434, p< .01), and Economic factors (r= .211, p< .05). According to the research findings, nurses and health care professionals should promote effective income management among elderly people, organize health-promoting activities, encourage social participation, and support involvement in religious activities to provide psychological anchorage for a peaceful and happy mind. Additionally, there should be an emphasis on family cohesion, mutual respect, and valuing each other, which will help build good family relationships and enable elderly people to live a normal and happy life.
