Abstract

This quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest study aimed at the effects of video-based educational materials on knowledge and preparation behaviors among women with cervical abnormalities undergoing colposcopy at Phaholpolpayuhasena Hospital, Kanchanaburi Province, Thailand. The sample consisted of 32 Thai women diagnosed with cervical abnormalities (from ASC-US and above) who required colposcopy. The intervention utilized a video about proper preparation for colposcopy. Data collection tools included 1) a personal information form, 2) a knowledge assessment about pre-colposcopy preparation, and 3) a behavior assessment of pre-colposcopy preparation. The content validity index (CVI) of all instruments exceeded .67-1. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and dependent t-tests. The findings revealed that:

1. Those who found abnormal cervix at Phaholpolpayuhasena Hospital, Kanchanaburi Province, after receiving information via video media on preparation before cervical examination had higher knowledge about behavior before cervical examination than before receiving information via video media on preparation before cervical examination with statistical significance at the .001 level.

2. Those who found abnormalities in the cervix at Phaholpolpayuhasena Hospital, Kanchanaburi Province, after receiving information via video media on preparation before cervical endoscopy, had more than 100 percent correct behavior before cervical endoscopy in 7 items from 10 items.

The study suggests that nurses should provide pre-colposcopy preparation information through diverse communication channels to ensure accurate patient preparation behaviors.
