Abstract

The qua-si experimental study was to examine the effectiveness of the Enhancing English skill : BCNU web based learning among the 1st year nursing students in Boromarajonani College of Nursing Udonthani. The participants were 190 nursing students, currently studying the 1st year in academic year 2018. G*power formula was used to calculate sample size, resulting 60 participants. Regarding the inclusion criteria, English score of the Praboramarajchanok.  Quata sampling and simple random sampling were implemented to allocate participants into 2 groups: experimental group (n=30) and control group (n=30). The experimental group engaged into the intervention for 1 month while the control group used the standard learning. Measurements included 5 parts: 1) demographic data, 2) English language proficiency 3) Attitude of English learning 4) English competency and 5) the attitude toward E-learning platform. Reliability was also tested. Cronbach's alpha Coefficient of the English language competency questionnaire was 0.933 and the English language proficiency test (KR-20 = 0.457), which is considered in the moderately difficult range. Descriptive statistic was used for demographic data (frequency and percentage Mean, SD, Chi-square test). To test the effectiveness, Pair-T-test was used to compare at pre and post intervention in the experimental group. Independent-T-test was tested between 2 groups.

The result found that after engagement into the intervention, the Experimental group reported the significant different of English knowledge score. The English knowledge score in post intervention was higher than those in baseline score but the attitude of English learning score and the English competency score in the Experimental group were not changed. Conclusion, BCNU web-based learning program showed effectiveness on increasing English knowledge score. The program development should be considered to convince participants more engagement into this program. Enhancing the attitude of English learning and English competency activities is required for feasibility and more effectiveness.
