Effects of Breastfeeding Promoting Workshop on Knowledge, Attitude, and Intention of 6 Months Exclusive Breastfeeding among Pregnant Women

The research was quasi-experiment with one-group pretest-posttest design aimed to evaluate the effects of breastfeeding workshop training on knowledge, attitude, and intention of 6 months exclusive breastfeeding. The sample consisted of 25 pregnant women in Hat Yai municipality, Songkhla province. The 1-day breastfeeding workshop training comprised 3 activities: 1) education of the 6 months exclusive breastfeeding, 2) Sharing of breastfeeding experience; problem and resolve guide, and 3) training the breastfeeding skills. The data-collecting instruments including knowledge, attitude, and intention toward exclusive breastfeeding that were validated by experts. The reliability of knowledge was tested using KR-20, yielding a value of 0.7. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficients of attitude and intention were tested, yielding values of 0.73 and 0.86 respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive and paired t-test statistics.
The results showed that the knowledge, attitude, and intention of exclusive breastfeeding among the pregnant women after workshop training had significantly higher than those before (p< .001), (p< .001) and (p< .01), respectively. In addition, the good level of satisfaction was addressed by the pregnant women. These findings indicated that the workshop training of exclusive breastfeeding could enhance the knowledge, attitude and intention of 6 months exclusive breastfeeding among the pregnant women. Therefore, healthcare personnel should apply this program as a promotion guide to increase the effectiveness of exclusive breastfeeding.
