Factors Related to The Quality of Balance in Preventing Falls among the Elderly in Koksung community, Muang district, Nakhoratchasima Province

This study is cross-sectional research aimed to examine the factors related to the quality of balance in preventing falls among the elderly in Kok Sung community, Mueang District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. The study sample consisted of 314 elderly who were 60 years and older. Using a health belief questionnaire related to falls with Berg balance score tests. The reliability is measured by Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of 0.80. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and the relationships were tested using Chi-square statistics and Pearson’s correlation coefficient.
The results found that personal factors, including gender, age, occupation, income, education level, marital status, chronic illnesses, regular medication use, vision ability, and history of falls within the past 6 months, were significantly related to the quality of balance in preventing falls among the elderly in the community. Additionally, the health belief factor regarding the perceived benefits of fall prevention behavior showed a positive correlation with the quality of balance in preventing falls among the elderly in the community.
Therefore, healthcare providers should promote self-care practices among the elderly to delay and prevent falls, taking into personal factors and enhancing the perceived benefits of engaging in fall prevention behaviors to improve the quality of balance among the elderly in the community.
