This single-group, pre-test-post quasi-experimental study aimed to examine the effects of a support and education program on self-care behaviors and glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes who received services at Ban Thangam Subdistrict Health Promotion Hospital, Mueang Nakhon Si Thammarat District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. The sample group consisted of 64 type 2 diabetes patients. The research tools consisted of: 1) Support and education program; 2) Self-care manual for type 2 diabetes patients; and 3) data collection tools, which were validated by three experts. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Paired Sample t-test.
The results of the study found that the overall self-care behavior scores of type 2 diabetes patients after receiving the program in all 6 areas, including eating, exercising, preventing complications, foot care, taking medication, and attending appointments It was significantly better than before receiving the program (p< .05) and the blood sugar level (HbA1C) after receiving the program was significantly decreased (p< .05).
Recommendations from this research include further implementation of the support and education program for self - care behavior and blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes to cover all areas.
