Abstract

This predictive research aims to 1) examine the relationships among personal information, finding and using sources of evidence-based information, barriers to implementing evidence-based practice, for behaviors of evidence-based nursing practice for stroke care and 2) study factors influencing the behaviors of evidence-based nursing practice for stroke care. The samples were 104 nurses who caring for stroke patients in secondary and tertiary hospitals. Participants were enrolled by using simple random sampling method, via computer software. The research instruments consisted of four questionnaires as 1) demographic data, 2) finding and using sources of evidence-based information, 3) barriers to implementing evidence-based practice, and 4) behaviors of evidence-based nursing practice for stroke care. Data were analyzed using Pearson's correlation and Stepwise multiple regression statistics.

The results revealed that the behaviors of evidence-based nursing practice for stroke care were positively correlated with the wards in hospital and the finding and using sources of evidence-based information at level D significantly (p<0.01, r = 0.30, r = 0.32). Additionally, the finding and using sources of evidence-based information at level D and the working in Stroke unit were significant predictors of the behaviors of evidence-based nursing practice for stroke care by 16 % (R2 = 0.16,  p<0.01, β = 0.27, 0.23)

The study suggests that nurses who caring for stroke patients should improve knowledge and skill to find evidence-based information from the quality and credible sources, including receiving support and motivation to use empirical data to improve stroke nursing.
