The effect of a self-efficacy promotion program with a mobile application on coronary artery stenosis preventive behaviors among patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention

This quasi-experimental design aimed to examine the effect of a self-efficacy promotion program with a mobile application on coronary artery stenosis preventive behaviors among patients undergoing their first percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). The sample consisted of 59 patients admitted to a tertiary hospital in Pathum Thani Province. Participants were selected using purposive sampling according to the inclusion criteria and randomly assigned to either an experimental group (n = 30), which received usual nursing care plus the self-efficacy promotion program with a mobile application, or a control group (n = 29), which received usual care. Data collection instruments included: 1) a demographic and clinical characteristics questionnaire, and 2) a preventive behavior for coronary artery stenosis questionnaire. The intervention consisted of a 12-week self-efficacy promotion program delivered through a mobile application. Self-efficacy was also measured as a process indicator using a validated self-efficacy scale for patients with coronary artery disease. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and two-way repeated measures analysis of variance to compare mean differences in behavior scores across time and between groups
The results showed that the experimental group demonstrated a significant increase in mean preventive behavior scores for coronary artery stenosis at both 4 weeks and 12 weeks compared to baseline (F(1.55, 88.25) = 135.33, p < .001). Furthermore, the experimental group demonstrated significantly higher mean scores than the control group at both 4 weeks and 12 weeks (p < .001, p < .001).
These findings indicate that integrating a mobile application into a self-efficacy promotion program can effectively improve self-efficacy and promote sustained preventive behaviors for coronary artery stenosis after PCI. Nurses and healthcare providers may apply this approach to develop continuous care models that enhance long-term adherence to health-promoting behaviors in patients with coronary artery disease.
