Job Stress , Coping Strategies and Quality of Working Life of personnel in a general hospital

Abstract
Background: Stress in workplace is common problem that staffs have to face. Coping strategies is the important thing which ones do to solve the stress for happiness at work.
Objectives: 1) To study the correlation between stress, coping strategies and quality of working life. 2) To study the predilection of working place quality by using stress and coping strategies. 3) To compare 3 variables between personal factors
Materials and methods: This cross-sectional observation study was conducted in general hospital, using questionnaires. There are four questionnaires: Personal data, Job Stress, Coping Strategies, and Quality of Working Life questionnaires. Statistical analysis was performed using one-way analysis of variance, Pearson product moment correlation coefficient and multiple regressions. Descriptive analysis was performed appropriately to data.
Results: The questionnaires were submitted to 668 participants with returning of 600 (90.00%). Half of participants (50.20%) were in normal mental health status. The most coping strategies were problem-focused and emotional-focused. Most of participants had medium-rated quality of working life. The quality of working place showed significant correlation with job stress, problem-focused and emotional-focused coping strategies (p<0.01). Less useful coping showed correlation with job stress, but did not correlate with the quality of working life. Job stress and all coping strategies are significantly correlated with the quality of working life (p<0.05). Male had job stress more than female. The most coping strategies in female was emotional focused.
Conclusion: If people at work use good both of problem-focused and emotional–focused that result to have a high quality of working life. While less useful coping did not correlate with quality of working life probably due to less useful coping is to let problems without coping with stress which may result good or bad quality of working life.
